Hailika’as Heiltsuk Health Centre Goals, Objectives and Performance Indicators

Goal 1

The health of the community of Bella Bella will be enhanced and improved as shown by:

  • a greater awareness and ownership of personal health;
  • a life expectancy at birth that meets or exceeds the provincial life expectancy at birth; and
  • community members describing their quality of life as “good” or “very good”.

Targeted areas for health improvements include: Chronic Disease, Mental and Emotional Health and Addictions and Preventable Disease.

Chronic Disease

a. Develop a Healthy Foods Policy for HHHC (Short Term)

b. Encourage community members to adopt healthy lifestyle choices including – improved nutrition, increased physical activity, and effective
stress management

  • Evidence of healthy, nutritious foods served at community functions (Medium Term)
  • % of children, youth and adults in a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) range as by volunteer participation in BMI assessment (Ongoing)

Mental and Emotional Health

e. Work together with the community to conduct a needs assessment and subsequently develop a vision for what a more comprehensive and diverse therapeutic counselling services program might look like for the community.

h. Work with community partners to revitalize and retain the Heiltsuk language in the community by supporting the development of at least 5–10 fluent Heiltsuk speaking youth by 2022 (Long Term).

Preventable Disease

i. Continue to promote immunization (Ongoing)

j. Education and promotion of reproductive health in adults and youth (Ongoing)

  • Rate of Sexually Transmitted Infections specifically Chlamydia, Gonorrhea

k. 100% of Children aged 0 – 6 years will have an annual dental clinic visit for preventative dental care (Medium Term)

l. Proactive dental treatment care for 100% of community members focusing primarily on prevention services (Long Term)

Overall Health

m. Home and Community Care services will increase health promotion, illness prevention activities available to community elders (Medium Term)

n. 100% of Children aged 0 – 6 years that have the opportunity to access structured language and early childhood education programs. (Medium Term)

Goal 2

The HHHC will maintain a high level of business operation as shown by:

  • meeting the requirements of the First Nations Health Authority contribution agreements;
  • meeting the national standards of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; and
  • meeting the national standards of Accreditation Canada.

Goal 3

The HHHC will be committed to the continuous improvement to better meet the needs of the community as shown by:

  • providing opportunities for clients, staff and community partner feedback;
  • communicating the outcomes of quality improvement initiatives; and
  • ensuring client safety is a priority in Quality Improvement and Risk Management initiatives;
  • ensuring a healthy and safe work environment for Health Centre staff.
